Weaning

So...with just 3 weeks left before returning to work I've made the choice to wean Davin off from breastfeeding to formula bottle feeding. (I exclusively nursed him for 2 1/2 months.) I figured it would be easier not just for me but also for Chris & Aaron's parents (since they'll be taking care of him when I'm back at work). 3 weeks into weaning I never realized how hard it was going to be. You have to have A LOT of patience!! I mean A LOT!!! He cries, screams, hits the bottle out of his mouth and does not want to drink the formula at all. I've gotten so frustrated that I wanted to just put the bottle down and nurse him. But I couldn't! I had to be strong and not give in or else he would never take the bottle. The nurse suggested for someone else to feed him the bottle but that's just impossible. I'm the only one with him everyday since dad's at work! But dad does feed him on the weekends and it's
a nice break for me!

So I've started off by giving him 2 bottles in the morning usually around the same feeding time then nurse the rest of the day. Now that we're in our 5th week I have to say that he is doing sooo much better!! I've added a 3rd bottle and he's eating better. He's not screaming or hitting the bottle as much and he's actually drinking it! He's not totally comfortable yet but we are making progress! I can't believe that I'm saying this but nursing is so much easier than bottle feeding (especially since I had such a hard time in the beginning). Well who ever said that weaning was going to be easy?!
